چکیده

Global Sensitivity Analysis (GSA) methods are useful tools to rank input parameters uncertainties regarding their impact on result variability. In practice, such type of approach is still at an exploratory level for studies relying on 2D Shallow Water Equations (SWE) codes as GSA requires specific tools and deals with important computational capacity. The aim of this paper is to provide both a protocol and a tool to carry out a GSA for 2D hydraulic modelling applications. A coupled tool between Prométhée (a parametric computation environment) and FullSWOF 2D (a code relying on 2D SWE) has been set up: Prométhée-FullSWOF 2D (P-FS). The main steps of our protocol are: i) to identify the 2D hydraulic code input parameters of interest and to assign them a probability density function, ii) to propagate uncertainties within the model, and iii) to rank the effects of each input parameter on the output of interest. For our study case, simulations of a river flood event were run with uncertainties introduced through three parameters using P-FS tool. Tests were performed on regular computational mesh, spatially discretizing an urban area, using up to 17.9 million of computational points. P-FS tool has been installed on a cluster for computation. Method and P-FS tool successfully allow the computation of Sobol indices maps.

Global Sensitivity Analysis with 2D Hydraulic Codes: Application on Uncertainties Related to High-Resolution Topographic Data

Technologies such as aerial photogrammetry allow production of 3D topographic data including complex environments such as urban areas. Therefore, it is possible to create High Resolution (HR) Digital Elevation Models (DEM) incorporating thin above ground elements influencing overland flow paths. Even though this category of big data has a high level of accuracy, there are still errors in measur...

Uncertainty Related to High Resolution Topographic Data Use for Flood Event Modeling over Urban Areas: toward a Sensitivity Analysis Approach

2D Free-surface hydraulic modeling tools are commonly used to assess flood hazard for production of maximal water depth (hmax) maps, as support for flood risk assessment. High Resolution (HR) topographic data are big data getting commonly available and used by hydraulic modeling community. Topographical information and its strategy of inclusion in models, are inputs of great importance for over...

Investigation of Thermo-hydraulic Performance of Circular Tube Fitted with Center-cleared Twisted Tape Using CFD Modeling (RESEARCH NOTE)

The article presents a practical technique for enhancing thermo-hydraulic performance of a circular tube. In this way, numerical method focusing on laminar tubular flow is used to compare the effectiveness of utilizing center-cleared twisted tapes instead of typical shape of short width tapes. Numerical analysis represented that using both center-cleared and typical shape of twisted tapes, Re e...

Particle Swarm Optimization for Hydraulic Analysis of Water Distribution Systems

The analysis of flow in water-distribution networks with several pumps by the Content Model may be turned into a non-convex optimization uncertain problem with multiple solutions. Newton-based methods such as GGA are not able to capture a global optimum in these situations. On the other hand, evolutionary methods designed to use the population of individuals may find a global solution even for ...

Sensitivity Analysis of Hydraulic Parameters in the Simulation of Unsaturated Soil Water Dynamics

Soil water content is one of the most important parameters for estimating irrigation frequency and providing the plant’s water requirement. Since measurement of soil water content is both expensive and time consuming, water movement models are used to estimate these values. In this study, LEACHW model was used to estimate soil water content for two “dry” (20-29 Aug) and “wet” (1-6 Jul) periods ...
